Every month, we catch up with a different member of the TeleData Team to find out their thoughts on all things tech.
This month we caught up with our Head of Service Delivery, Dan, who's been with TeleData since the 1st Easy days.
What was the first job role to land you on your tech career ladder?
Unofficially I became the go to office tech guy during my time as an accounting apprentice straight out of college. This led me to go to university to study my software development degree which in turn got me my first official role with 1st Easy, which was later acquired by TeleData. I’ve been here for 10 years since then!
Describe your typical day at TeleData in no more than 20 words.
Dealing with whatever obscure issues the day brings in a quick, friendly and professional manner!
Best thing about working in tech?
You never know what the day will throw at you. You are always learning new skills while working to perfect any existing knowledge.
Worst thing about working in tech?
In the ever changing world of technology it can be difficult to find the time to stay up to date with all the latest goings on.
Which one piece of technology could you not live without?
I imagine for the majority of people the honest answer to this would always be their mobile phone. Especially following the recent lockdown when it was vital to stay in touch with friends and family. Whether I just want to check the weather or have a long distance conversation with my friend on the other side of the world, my phone makes it easy and possible no matter where I am.
Which one piece of technology would you ditch into room 101?
Year on year certain technology becomes obsolete due to improvements in that field or newer models. It’s difficult to choose an item that I would ditch as no matter how bad or old a product is, it usually helps on the journey to improvement in some way. Even if it's just to show how not to do it!
Best tech innovation of the last 12 months?
It's been around over 12 months and I imagine there were others trying it earlier, but the ECG functionality on the apple watch is pretty impressive. Being able to monitor heart rhythm directly from your wrist on the go is brilliant. This is hopefully just a taste of the health monitoring advancements that will be made in the wearable technology industry over the next few years.
Who’s your tech hero?
It's hard to put down one name as a hero as there are, and have been, so many people key to advancements in science and technology. Thomas Edison, Marie Curie, Albert Einstein, Tim Berners-Lee, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are just a few that come to mind!
Apple or Android?
I use both daily but my choice would always be Apple. From design through to usability, all of their products come out on top for me. They can sometimes be pricey but if you plan on using them regularly you will soon see the value for your money.
What was your first ever games console, and your favourite game?
The first console I ever owned was a Sega Master System and all of the games were awesome. If I had to pick one it would be Wonder Boy in Monster Land with Rainbow Islands a close second!
